We will remember them
At the eleventh hour on the eleventh day of the eleventh month in 1918 World War I was officially ended by the Allies and Central Powers, ceasing four years of fighting, the impact of which had shattered the globe. Now on the eve of the 100th anniversary of this date, the Colorado Symphony come together with a monumental cast to perform Benjamin Britten's definitive masterwork, commissioned to mark the completion of a new cathedral in the city of Coventry in 1962.
Evocative and unforgettable, with a heightened emphasis on grief and loss, it is a tribute to humanity and inspires hope that one day, the cycle of violence will end, as illustrated by the accompanying words of war poet Wilfred Owens.
Last staged by the Symphony in 2001, this is truly a rare chance to experience the work in all its moving glory, as performed by the company, guest vocalists, the Colorado Symphony Chorus and Colorado Children's Chorale, all under the baton of Music Director Brett Mitchell.
