Bela Fleck Premieres A Brand New Work
Genre-bending 16-time Grammy winner Bela Fleck is credited with reinventing the sound and image of the banjo throughout a prolific career spanning four decades. Join the world's leading banjo player as he joins the Colorado Symphony Orchestra and resident music director Brett Mitchell for an program of works by Bartok, Webern and Janacek, closing the evening with the world premiere of Fleck's very own Concerto for Banjo and Orchestra No. 3.
Fresh from a 2017 collaboration with the symphony that saw the release of Fleck's latest album Juno Concerto, the gifted innovator has left no stone unturned in his musical journey, creating new genres like Newgrass, a fusion of jam band and bluegrass, along the way. A forerunner of the three-finger picking style, Fleck's virtuosity and passion for his instrument is simply a joy to watch.
