Don't Miss The Tears Of A Clown Classic
First performed in Milan's Teatro Dal Verme in 1892, Ruggero Leoncavallo's tragic opera masterpiece Pagliacci owes its continued popularity over the ages thanks to the composer's brilliant balance of romance, humour, dark passion and violent moods. Experience the opera's soaring arias Vesta Li Giubba and Stridono Lassu, amongst others, during Opera Colorado's stunning production at the Ellie Caulkins Opera hHouse this winter.
A truly dramatic tale of love and betrayal, Pagliacci revolves around the turbulent relationships between members of a commedia del arte troupe. Married couples Canio and Nedda, and Tonio and Beppe, form part of the troupe. Nedda is embroiled in a torrid affair with fellow actor Silvio, and they pair plan to run away together. Tonio is also in love with Nedda, but she spurns him and in an act of revenge, Tonio tells Canio about her affair, setting off a spiral of revenge and blood.
