Piano Virtuoso Joyce Yang Performs Schumann, Janacek & Glass
Dance and music collide in a whirlwind of kinetic and sonic mastery during the world premiere tour of a brand new special collaboration between Finnish contemporary choreographer Jorma Elo and ivory-tickling superstar Joyce Yang. Together the dynamic duo give new life to Schumann's romantic solo work for piano Carnaval, with brand new choreography by the Boston Ballet choreographer-in-residence.
Born in Seoul, Korea, Yang became the youngest participant of the prestigious Van Cliburn International Piano Competition, winning the silver medal in 2005 at the age of just 19 years old. Blessed with a penchant for emotionally expressive performances rich in tonal color and interpretative intelligence, the young virtuoso is at home with the world's leading orchestras at both solo and ensemble recitals and has received two Grammy Award nominations for her stellar efforts thus far. In addition to the new work, Yang will also perform the music of Leos Janacek and Phillip Glass during the evening's program.
