Why See Oklahoma!?
The Musical Landmark
In celebration of the Oklahoma's 75th anniversary, DCPA present this brand new staging, which marks the directorial debut of company's Artistic Director Chris Coleman. This Oklahoma! promises to honor the musical's legacy of authentic storytelling, and with La La Land's Dominique Kelley choreographing, the dancing should be spectacular!
Oklahoma! holds a special place in musical theatre history. The first collaboration between Rodgers and Hammerstein, it was one of the first 'book musicals', wedding the songs to an emotionally resonant story, and connecting the acts with recurring themes and motifs. Featuring the songs 'Oh, What a Beautiful Mornin' and 'People Will Say We're in Love', the story centers on farmhand Laurey in the American West of 1906, and the two men who are competing for her affections.
