Brett Mitchell Conducts Hill, Mozart & Rachmaninoff.

New Colorado Symphony Orchestra music director Brett Mitchell follows up his promising inaugural year with a groundbreaking, diverse line-up for his second 2018/19 season. Things get off to a rousing start at the ensemble's opening weekend, which features a a three-night program of Rachmaninoff, Mozart and a brand new world premiere by principal timpanist William Hill.

Hill's latest composition follows the critical acclaim of the CSO-commissioned piece for large orchestra, chorus and electronic section The Raven, which was nominated for a Pulitzer Prize and Grawemeyer Award upon its debut in 2015. The ensemble also welcomes virtuoso pianist Jeremy Denk for Mozart's Piano Concerto No. 25, the last of the composer's 12 celebrated pieces for the instrument. The evening closes with Rachmaninoff's thrilling Symphony No. 2, a truly breathtaking work filled with sumptuous melodies and explosive climaxes.
