To modern audiences, Randy Newman is probably best known for his movie soundtrack work. He has won two Oscars for songs written for Pixar movies, and his tinkling ivories and distinctive vocals have also soundtracked Awakenings, The Princess and the Frog and Meet the Parents. He does however have a long and rich solo career stretching back to the 1960s, including songs like Sail Away, Mama Told Me Not to Come and I Love LA. An accomplished and touching songwriter, Newman is also famous for the strain of gentle humour and satire which runs throughout his work.
