A streamlined adaptation of Tolstoy's epic drama

A New Adaptation
Tolstoy's masterpiece arrives at the Stage Theatre in a celebrated adaptation by Kevin McKeon. Regarded as one of the greatest novels ever written, Anna Karenina is a sweeping romance which satirises Tsarist Russia's upper classes and questions the morality of 19th Century gender norms. Originally premiering in 2013 in Seattle, this version condenses the epic tome into a sprightly sub three hours, crystallising the story's propulsive drama for a modern audience. Chris Coleman directs.
First published in 1973, Anna Karenina is the tale of a spirited countess trapped in a suffocating marriage. Her cloud of depression is lifted when she meets the handsome Count Vronsky, and the pair begin a affair. However, their secret is soon discovered, scandalising St. Petersburg's upper classes, and forcing the lovers to flee.
