Colorado Ballet lay on the exquisitely romantic Lady of the Camellias just in time for Valentine's Day! Alexandre Dumas' tragic love story, second, only to Romeo and Juliet, tells the timeless story of country boy Armand and his love for the sophisticated courtesan Marguerite. The story has enjoyed many translations, notably into opera by Verdi (La Traviata) and film by Baz Luhrmann (Moulin Rouge!) Now experience the ravishing beauty and bittersweet denouement live on stage, set to the unforgettable music of Frederic Chopin.
What is the story?
A love story at its core, Lady of the Camellias chronicles the relationship of 1800s Paris' most sought-after Courtesan and the story's selfless heroine Marguerite Gautier and Armand Duval, a middle-class gentleman who defies conventions by falling deeply and irrevocably in love with her. The young lovers face jealousy the wrath of French society and, unbeknownst to Armand, the evolution of Marguerite's fatal illness.
